XNA Sci Fi Platformer

This XNA Sci Fi Platformer is something that I created using the Level Editor that I created. Through the use of C# and Windows Forms. This was a project that started during the summer after my first year of University.

In this game the concept is that the player controls a robot character that has to fight different types of mechanoid characters. The robot has to navigate around the level collecting Power-Ups and Energy Shields. Throughout the levels there are crates that the Player can destroy to get different colours of Gems.

Starship Assault

Starship is a simple game that I made over the summer after my first year of University. This was made in XNA 4.0 and was the first game that I have made using XNA.

This allowed me to learn the xna framework and C# at the same time as creating a simple classic game such as Asteroids. The game also has full controller support.

I recreated this classic with enemy ships following a set path and shooting the asteroids adds to their velocity directing it away from the enemy ship but still adding a challenge.

Skyfall

Skyfall is a HTML5 game built combining HTML5 and JavaScript using the enchant.js framework. This game was made as part of a team in first year as part of an assignment for Interactive Media and Games Development.

It is a skill based game whereby the user must control the character sprite and navigate through the ledges to avoid being caught the top of the screen.

The objective is to get the highest score possible. The user can also change to an alternate dungeon scene and the sprite changes.

Cars Vs Zombies

Cars Vs Zombies is another SFML game coded in C++. This was coded as part of a 48 hour game jam as part of a team consisting of myself and two other first year developers, Chloe Evans and Callum Currier.

This was yet another project done over the summer as part of the LJMU Game Jam in 2015.

The objective is to use the various mud tracks to avoid zombies and shoot them and survive as long as possible.

XNA Level Editor

This is a level editor I created in C# using XNA 4.0 . This level editor allows me to create, save and load map files which I have created using a Binary Formatter.

The level editor allows me to implement maps using left click to place the tile that has been selected by the map creator. It also has key codes and on right click it toggles passable for the basic collision with the tiles.

There are multiple layers within the level editor allowing the maps to have a background, interactive and foreground elements which can be drawn on. The level editor was made with Windows Forms which are used to set the properties and control the events within the window. Functions have been set up to allow better synchronisation between the XNA game it is used with and the level editor.

Dungeon Explorer

Dungeon Explorer is a game I created in SFML as part of an assignment which was made for Mathematics and 2D Graphics.It is a simple game whereby the archer character has to fight oncoming waves of ferocious Ogres and avoid knives thrown from those pesky ninjas.The objective is to reach the highest score possible surviving these waves of enemies while trying to collect coins around the dungeon which add to the score.

This video was created as an assignment that was set using the software Source Filmmaker. The objective of this task was to create an animation based on a Video Game. I created a prequel to one of my Favourite games, Gears of War.

3D User Interface

Creating a 3D User Interface using Hieroglyph Engine

This is part of a project I am working on for Mathematics and 3D Graphics whereby I have to implement a Forza Style 3D Interface through the use of Hieroglyph 3 Engine . Which is a C++ Rendering library that uses Direct3D 11.

The idea of this interface is that a user can change parts of the scene such as the lighting of the scene, spin the camera, as well as change the position and appearance of the models.

Using HLSL Texture Samplers and Lighting Algorithms

Creating a 3D User Interface using Hieroglyph Engine

This is a demonstration of basic HLSL shaders to implement the phone shading algorithm to these models, as well as how to implement a skybox into a 3D scene. Once again this has been completed in Hieroglyph 3 Engine . As part of the Mathematics and 3D Graphics module. Which covers the fundamentals of lighting algorithms and shaders to gain knowledge of how they work.

Unreal Engine Level Design

Designing levels to be implemented within both Machinima and External Engines

Through the use of unreal engine I have learnt how to create realistic levels which can be applied and implemented into a game environment. Through doing this as part of my Digital Storytelling and Machinima module and partly through following various tutorials from Epic Games. I have learnt concepts on the best ways to create levels and script blueprints for them.

Particle Systems and Concepts

Something which I have been studying is the implementation and creating of particle systems. I have used them in Source Filmmaker for machinima as well as in real time scenes in XNA and for use in Unreal Engine. I have gained knowledge of how and why they work and even how to create simple particle systems.

Hieroglyph 3 Level Respresenting Mathematical Equations

This is a level which I created to show the following elements:

• Game World Creation via Static Transformations and Geometry Creation (e.g. 3D Primitives (triangle batches via Vertex/Index Buffers) and (optionally) DCC-Generated 3D Models in one of the supported data interchange formats.
• 3D DirectX 11 Rendering using Primitives, Models and Textures.
• 2D Raster Font/Text Rendering using Sprite-Based Text Elements.
• 3D Procedural Animation using dynamic translation, scaling and rotation.
• 3D Motion implementation using the principles of motion via transformation.
• Enhanced 3D Motion via Interpolated Animation Techniques.
• External Resource / Asset Management (Models, Sprites, Shaders etc.).
• 3D Projective Camera Representation and User Interaction using Keyboard/Mouse Input Control.

Steam On The Mersey Game

For Maritime Museum

Steam On the Mersey was game that was made for the restoration of a Steam Boat called the Daniel Adamson for their Steam On The Mersey Event.

As this is a game made for Children and therefore we created simple and colourful art in Adobe Animate. As this based at Albert Docks we implemented various vector images of the SkyLine.

To add interactivity we hooked up a Makey Makey. Using the 3D Printer in university we printed off two paddles one for each hand and squeezing them in the correct sequence will propel the boat forward. We did this in a way that if you get a certain amount in correct sequence the horn on the boat will sound and steam will be let out.

2D ARPG

SFML ARPG Coursework

This 2D ARPG was created for a group assignment to which myself and my classmates where tasked with creating a RPG game game of any description using SFML and the knowledge gained of object oriented C++.

What Role was I? I was in charge of setting up most of the base classes and putting together of the code. I also spent alot of the time on the gameplay elements including combat and interaction and the inventory system within the game. The quest system was also something which I spent time on. Finding art and helping with the design of the map finding the sprites etc.
